Born in Hong Kong in 1983, Adrian read mathematics and philosophy at Cambridge before going on to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he received a Master’s in Historical Performance; he then studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. He has worked with groups including the Academy of Ancient Music, the BBC Singers, the Brabant Ensemble, Chamber Choir Ireland, Ex Cathedra, EXAUDI, London Voices, Oxford Camerata, and Tenebrae.

Adrian also has a great deal of stage experience, including performances in London, Rome, Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Köln, Lille, Strasbourg, and Zürich,. A particular highlight was appearing as a soloist in the world premiere of Stockhausen’s opera Mittwoch aus Licht in Birmingham in 2012.

Adrian is Associate Editor (Early Music) of Classical Music magazine, and was the editor of Early Music Today magazine from 2013 to 2018. He is an experienced music journalist, his particular specialisms being early music/historical performance, historical musicology, vocal music, and choral music. Adrian is an experienced editor and engraver of music; his work includes the production of new editions, full scores, and orchestral parts from original sources, as well as arranging works for different performing forces.

He is also an experienced proofreader, writer of concert programme notes and CD booklet notes, and translator into English from French, German, Italian, and Latin.
