Kateryna Sivak

Kateryna (Kate) Sivak is a full-time doctoral researcher in Media and Cultural Studies. Her PhD project is a virtual ethnographic study that looks at unofficial ways audiovisual content is translated and distributed in Ukraine. Specifically, she is exploring such practices as file-sharing, ‘pirate’ streaming, and unofficial Ukrainian subtitling and voice over production. Broadly, her research interests include film ‘piracy’, informal media economies, audiovisual translation, media in less popular languages, and new ways of film and TV distribution. Kateryna is a Co-Editor of Makings, an open-access, peer-reviewed journal on the cultural and creative industries.
