Shi Ling Chin

Shi Ling Chin was born in Malaysia and started playing the violin at the age of 11. At 17, she was awarded a bursary to further her musical studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire, where she started lessons with Nathaniel Vallois. Shi Ling is a recipient of the Director’s Award (Sydney Cons), LMusA (AMEB & University of Melbourne) and FTCL (Guildhall) Award of Excellence, and the Phillip Gazder Scholarship Award. Shi Ling has performed in the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, Malaysia, France, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Italy and Singapore as a recital soloist, and has won the Herbert Lumby Strings Prize, BC Strings Prize and the Rollason Music Award. She is the finalist in various prizes such as the Chandos Young Musicians Competition, BC Strings Prize. Herbert Lumby Prize, BPO Prize and the Leamington Music Prize.

In 2017, Shi Ling is a new generation artist at the Stiftfestival. In addition to that, Shi Ling enjoys playing chamber music and has played in several chamber music ensembles across the years. Shi Ling has studied with Professors Daniel Rolland and Leonid Kerbel under the Artist Diploma Programme at the Royal College of Music. She has also taken a keen interest on Impressionist and Avant Garde Literature and Arts in the last few years, particularly in the Twentienth- Century Solo violin works, and is now undertaking a PhD on Twentieth Century violin Chaconnes at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
