STEAM Innovation in the Curriculum (STEAM INC) Project 2019-2022

Project Overview

STEAM thinking is a process which promotes collaboration between different disciplines across the Arts (and Design), Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (A+STEM) but commonly the Humanities and Social Sciences would also be considered part to aid societally relevant, user-aware, and more critical, cross-cutting, holistic approaches for our 21st century challenges.

This was an Erasmus+ funded project (2019-1-UK01-KA203-062032) led by Birmingham City University (BCU). It focused on critically exploring inter- and transdisciplinary principles, characteristics, approaches, and methods to facilitate meaningful and impactful learning, collaborations and actions on complex societal challenges. While focused on Higher Education and Public Educational contexts, the insights, methods, and publications produced can be very helpful in informing and strengthening SSG collaborative efforts.

Project Aims

Using STEAM in Higher Education has typically been understood as a way of delivering the skills required for high-tech, high-value jobs, and encouraging more versatile, creative, and collaboratively minded graduates.

BCU’s STEAMhouse and the CEBE faculty have championed STEAM thinking and ways of working forging research collaborations and outputs.

The Partners had common strengths because of their foresight in adopting processes, which span traditionally separate areas of thought.

More about the project is available on the project website Steam Innovation including links to the outputs.
