Barbara Moseley Harris
Research to PhD - Social Sciences
Barbara is a part-time PhD student researching the views of adults who stutter about stuttering intervention and has practised as a speech and language therapist for over thirty years, specialising in working with people who stutter. She established and led a team for children and young people who stutter and their families in her local NHS Trust, as well as working with adults who stutter.
Working with the aim of giving each individual confidence in their own voice has shaped Barbara’s approach to research. She focuses on being led whenever possible by the insights of people with lived experience of the topic being explored. Previously she has explored the perspectives of parents asked to attend a range of speech and language therapy groups as part of her MSc in Research Methods from the University of Chester. In her PhD project she is seeking views of adults who stutter about which questions should be researched, and consulting and collaborating with advisors with lived experience throughout each stage of the research cycle.
