In collaboration with the Business School and the School of the Built Environment, Dr Berrahou is responsible for the development and implementation of the online MBA with a concentration in Health Leadership and Management.
PhD from Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) in Urban and Regional Sciences with a concentration in strategic health planning and systems thinking. Dr Berrahou's PhD thesis examined the effects of the nursing home environment on residents' well-being outcomes, and recommendations were presented to help policy-makers, nursing home administrators, and designers to structure more humane institutional settings for the elderly.

Current/ongoing research studies
Dr Berrahou's research demonstrates that the contribution of leadership and management skills and competence to achieving effective and efficient service improvement remains relevant to researchers, healthcare managers, and front-line health professionals. His particular focus is to examine whether different types of improvement require different leadership styles in a healthcare system, such as the NHS, and how to translate these leadership styles into activities that complement quality improvement.
Past research studies
During his tenure at the Texas Department of Health, Dr Berrahou prepared applications for and secured competitive grants and funding, primarily from State of Texas and United States government agencies, to improve access to quality health services for the Texas maternal and child population in-need. These funds helped to increase the availability of data with direct implications for public health practice. Examples of research topics explored through funded studies include teen pregnancy prevention, breastfeeding promotion, adolescent mental health youth, child obesity, foetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and transition of children with special care needs to adulthood.
Dr Berrahou is prepared to supervise topics focusing on maternal and child health issues, such as health inequalities, health behaviours and health outcomes; and the effectiveness of leadership and management styles in health and healthcare environments. He is currently supervising postgraduate students working in the areas of adolescents and contraception use and birth outcomes.
