Research
Dr Hossain's research interests in public health and social care encompass a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to ageing and the elderly population, dementia, mental health, heart failure, ethnicity, culture, religion, health inequality, and health policy.
Currently, Dr Hossain is actively involved in three ongoing projects. These projects encompass a systematic review on heart failure and ethnicity, an initiative focused on students' blended learning and engagement, and an exploration of the future of online learning. Additionally, there is a project centred around the British Curry Industry. While Dr Hossain's primary focus is on Qualitative Research Design, he also conducts some descriptive statistical analysis as part of his research endeavours.
Looking ahead, Dr Hossain's future research plan revolves around investigating the broader social determinants of health within ethnic minority communities. The aim is to understand how these determinants significantly influence health and contribute to health inequities, which are unjust and preventable disparities in health status seen within and between countries.
Furthermore, Dr Hossain seeks to explore the critical public health issue of health promotion through healthy eating and obesity prevention. Emphasizing the essential role of a healthy diet in maintaining overall well-being and combating obesity, this topic is particularly relevant due to its strong connections with chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.
Postgraduate Supervision
Dr Hossain supervises students on the MPH Public Health course.
