Human Health and Performance

Research Lab

Solving contemporary high-performance problems through partnership informed solutions

Our four areas of focus for our research are sports and exercise nutrition, chronic health and rehabilitation, exercise metabolism and fatigue and behaviour change and education.

Our mission

  • • Create new knowledge through peer-reviewed articles
    • Create insights into current thinking through critical reviews
    • Innovate and challenge the status quo
  • • Stress test our research in real world environments
    • Apply our findings with external partners to influence the industry
  • • Capture the benefits of our work
    • Use our impact as a feed-forward for more performance questions

Meet the lab lead

Lewis has sourced over £700k of external income for research collaboration with industry partners both nationally and internationally. To date, this has led to over 65 high-quality outputs in nutrition and physiology with a focus on exercise metabolism and fatigue. This has primarily focussed on high-performance athletes, but Lewis conducts research in health-related areas such as Long COVID, Vitamin D supplementation, phenylketonuria, and haemochromatosis.

Our external partners

We are working with a variety of external partners, including Maurten, Burton Albion Community Trust, Bimuno, City of Birmingham Swimming Club, Aquatics GB, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA), Haemachromatosis UK, World Lacrosse, and Vitaflo.
