Silpa Gangi

Enterprise Systems Management - MSc

Silpa chose to pursue a postgraduate degree to help reach her career goals. After working in industry for a few years she decided on MSc Enterprise Systems Management. Not only did Silpa develop her skills and get closer to her dream career but she also found a supportive community which helped her to flourish.

“After graduating from my undergraduate degree, I worked for four years as a Software Developer for a multinational company. During that time I realised more about the skills I have developed, including listening and analytical skills. I also developed strong problem solving skills.

I was looking for a way to transfer my skills so it could benefit my career. I thought of doing an MBA, however after applying I later changed my mind and decided to choose MSc Enterprise Systems Management. I took several suggestions from my family and friends, I even contacted my course module lead before joining for a clear understanding about the course.

This course was perfectly suitable and accompanies the knowledge I gained from my undergraduate degree. It also aligned with my desired career goals. I was happy to receive admission and it was a swift process.

My postgraduate course has taught me how to become more detail orientated and learn more professional ways of analysing and planning. I prioritised my commitments early on, and made the decision to achieve my career objectives. Moving from abroad and living here on my own has taught me a lot and I am enjoying my time in UK by interacting with people from different culture and the weather too very exciting.

In my opinion, the main difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study is that my undergraduate study provided me with theoretical knowledge. Whereas, my postgraduate study provides me with more tailored knowledge I can use in a real life context.

My first point of contact for all my academic queries are the tutors. I can come to them with any questions I have and they will help me to understand it clearly. They’re also really friendly too. The module lead for my course is always ready to assist us, and presents new opportunities and suggestions.

The University helped me to secure a paid summer placement opportunity in project management and forecasting. This will be advantageous on my CV. To help with CV preparation and applying for jobs, the Career+ and Graduate+ teams are very helpful. Many international support activities take place throughout the academic year, these include presentation skills, writing skills, referencing and assignment support and much more.

The BCU community is diverse and full of culture and vibrancy. The BCUSU organises all regional programmes and celebrations. Everyone is welcome for those events. There are many activities for everyone to take part in and everyone is very helpful.

I’ve learnt a lot while on my course. I’ve learnt more about business intelligence, technology entrepreneurship, change management processes and techniques, and much more. My course even offers Prince2 certification training and SAP certification in ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) and BW (Business Warehouse).

My immediate goal is to secure a position within an organisation where I can continue to grow both professionally and personally. I enjoy challenges and look forward to opportunities where I will be able to consider more responsibilities. Ultimately, I’d like to move into management positions with a focus on strategy development and build a solid career.

Through my modules I have learnt a number of skills that I can apply to work, these include project management techniques. I’m currently focused on improving my communication and strategic planning skills through my education and volunteering activities.

I AM BCU, to me is both freedom and opportunity. I have met many different people at BCU who have created an open and welcoming community. They’ve helped me gain valuable experiences both as a person and professional."
