Parv always wanted a diverse, exciting career in marketing. BCU gave her the opportunity to develop her knowledge of the sector and combine her skills in marketing with her passion for live sport. Parv has since played a key role in Birmingham’s 2022 Commonwealth Games and now works for the British Olympic Association.
“I've always had a keen interest in marketing and advertising, but when it came to looking at universities, I struggled to find a course that combined the creative with practical elements. I've always been focused on pursuing my career and whilst I enjoy the creativity that marketing allows, I knew I needed the work experience and practical elements to succeed.
The course at BCU was varied enough for me to be creative whilst having lots of work experience built in. It covered a detailed overview of the marketing, advertising and Public Relations (PR) sectors. I developed knowledge in key areas such as market research, brand management, global advertising, PR planning, event management and so much more which has allowed me to have a varied and interesting career since graduating.
From 2014 - 2021 I worked in numerous marketing roles, learning a lot about the industry and myself along the way. My roles have involved working solo in SMEs to working in larger teams for global business. In 2021, I joined the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games which transitioned me into the world of live sport and I then discovered my true passion.
Sport is a dynamic, innovative industry to work in and I love applying my marketing expertise to an area that excites me. Working as a Brand Manager for the Commonwealth Games was a dream come true for me. I'm from Birmingham and this was such an exciting time for my city. I was responsible for approving branding, uniforms and marketing collateral that could be seen across the city. I was proud to see my work and how it built up excitement for the Games.
Following the Commonwealth Games, I knew I had to continue working in the world of sport. Since then, I have worked for the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, and the Major League Baseball World Tour in London and now I work as an Event Manager for Team GB. I'm now part of the planning for the Olympics, possibly the biggest and best sporting event in the world!
Marketing, Advertising and PR are such varied industries, thanks to my time at BCU I got to experience it all, try out different careers and work all over the UK. I've found my place in the world of sport, and I can't wait to be a part of sporting events to come!”
