Attendance monitoring

Attendance Monitoring

We want you to get the most out of your time here at BCU, and good attendance is the first step to succeeding with your studies.

When you attend a session on your timetable, you’ll be asked to register your attendance with your student ID card. This tells us you’re in class and engaging with your learning. More importantly, it helps us to identify students who might be struggling with their attendance, to allow us to provide the best possible support.

Buildings with card readers

Simply hold your student ID card up to the card reader in your classroom to record your attendance when you arrive.

You may also be issued with a 'challenge code' by your tutor, this will enable you to record your attendance in rooms where there is not a reader.

Buildings without readers

For rooms without a card reader, show your ID to your tutor to let them know you’re there when you arrive.

When to check in

You must register your attendance from 20 minutes before the start of your class up until 20 minutes before the class is scheduled to end. For example, if your lecture is from 9-10am you can check-in between 8.40am and 9.40am.

Using your ID card

You’ll need your Student ID card to swipe in using the card reader when you arrive at your session, or to show your tutor if you’re in a room without a reader.

If you are attending your first day with us and have enrolled but haven’t yet picked up your student ID card, you just need to let your tutor know that you are present. You can then arrange to collect your ID card from our Enrolment Contact Centre or your Faculty Student Centre.

If you are a new student and have not completed your enrolment yet, you must still attend all of your scheduled learning sessions. Just let your tutor know that you are present.

If you lose your ID card, you’ll need to purchase a new one on the BCU online store for £10.00.

Stick to your timetable

Our system will record your attendance against your timetable, so please make sure you attend the correct sessions. Once you’ve enrolled or re-enrolled, your timetable will be released and you'll be able to see it on the homepage of iCity. To get a longer-term view of your timetable, choose ‘Your Timetable’ from the top left menu.

Manage your attendance on the go

Your Faculty Student Centre is here to support you during your studies and can support you with any queries regarding attendance and engagement. You can find the contact details for your Faculty Student Centre on iCity

You can also collect your Student ID card from your Faculty Student Centre if you don’t have an on-campus enrolment appointment booked.
