With the long hours spent studying it’s easy to skip going to the gym or heading out for a run, but staying fit doesn’t need to be a chore and it can help keep your mind healthy for your studies.
Our BCU Sport team offer a variety of ways for you to stay active while studying, from competitive sports to weekly sessions – and it’s a great way to meet new people too!
Competitive sport
Our sports teams perform in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues, competing against other universities on a weekly basis on top of training for two hours a week. Each team also receives specific support for development including strength and conditioning training, nutritional advice and coaching.

BCU Active
If you’re after a more casual way to keep fit but still play your favourite sports, our BCU Active programme allows you to just turn up and play.
The team offers a range of sessions throughout the week for just £3 per session.
Are you an elite athlete?
If you are currently competing at county level or higher, you may be eligible for our Sports Scholarship, which helps elite athletes to train alongside their studies.
Support includes strength and conditioning support, sports nutrition, expert coaching, sport therapy, performance lifestyle support, sports kit and more.
Gym membership
Prefer to manage your own fitness? You can get discounted membership at our Doug Ellis Sports Centre to use the fitness suite, join a class or team up with your mates in the sports hall.
The fully air-conditioned gym has over 80 pieces of fitness equipment to choose from, including cardiovascular (great for your heart and lungs), resistance equipment (great for toning the body) and a free weights area.
Monthly membership starts from just £7.99 for students.
