TEF ratings 2023
In the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) ratings Birmingham City University (BCU) achieved a Silver rating overall, made up from Gold for Student Experience and Silver for Student Outcomes. BCU was praised for the way it “both inspires and stretches students to develop knowledge and skills”, as well as the “real-life opportunities” provided to gain valuable industrial experience through links and partnerships with local and national employers, which include the NHS, GlaxoSmithKline, Warwickshire County Cricket Club and Cure Leukaemia.
What is a TEF rating and how can it help you choose a university?
TEF judges the quality of teaching in England’s universities every four years and uses three ratings - Bronze, Silver and Gold – to show increasing degrees of excellence above the minimum quality requirements.
It was introduced to help students judge teaching quality when making their university choices. It also aims to improve the emphasis on teaching excellence and bring it up to the level of research excellence.
The rating is broken up into Student Experience and Student Outcomes, then the university is given an overall rating.
-
Gold
Outstanding and well above the minimum quality
-
Silver
Very high quality with some outstanding features
-
Bronze
