The National Exhibition Centre, commonly known as the NEC, is the largest indoor exhibition space in the UK.
Events Management students regularly visit Events Week Live held at the NEC, gaining valuable work experience and accessing opportunities to be mentored by the team at the NEC.
Students participate in a range of events, expert talks and hands-on activities, whilst also networking with professionals from across the events industry. Previous experiences have also included behind-the-scenes access to the build of Crufts, for students to get involved and see first-hand what goes into creating the iconic event, plus the hundreds of other events hosted every year at the venue.
Libby Carter, Course Leader for Event, Venue and Experience Management, said:
“Activities like Events Week Live at the NEC give our students experience of running events, encourages networking with professionals and offers mentoring for students throughout the remainder of their degree. This supports them in their journey and allows for knowledge and practice to be embedded in their CV’s.”
“As an industry focused course, we highly value the opportunities we have to involve our students with partnerships which allow them to experience life after graduation. For many students, these opportunities allow them to see first-hand the insides of the industries they are aiming for, build confidence and offer a taste of the future.”
Dr Richard Oddy, Head of Department for Marketing and Leisure Economies at Birmingham City University’s Business School added: “It has been fantastic to be involved with Events Week Live. Birmingham City University is committed to providing our students with as much industry experience as possible alongside their studies. What an incredible opportunity for our event management students to have had, looking behind-the-scenes look at what the industry is all about, as well as networking with some of the most influential people in this sector.”
