Current Chancellor

Actor, writer, comedian and charitable campaigner Sir Lenny Henry CBE is our Chancellor. You can find out more about Sir Lenny and his role here. 

History

In 1992, when the former Birmingham Polytechnic was first granted University status, The Lord Mayor of Birmingham was installed as the University’s first Chancellor, serving a year in this role. In the years that followed, each incumbent Lord Mayor served as Chancellor until 2016 when Sir Lenny Henry CBE was installed in this role.  Continuing to reflect the University’s commitment to the City of Birmingham, each Lord Mayor now serves as Pro-Chancellor of the University during their term of office.
