Textile Design gradate, Eleanor Brown took advantage of the extensive industry links her course offered, and has now secured invaluable experience in a world renowned luxury flooring company, Amtico.

The Textile Design course has really helped me understand the industry as a whole as we didn’t learn just from the technicians and tutors, but from an exciting programme of guest lecturers too.
Fresh Talent
Based on my work at the Graduate Show, I was selected for the Fresh Talent Industry Award from Amtico, a leading manufacturer of modern flooring design, and offered an internship with the company. I also received the craftsmanship Award from Craftspace.
Earlier on in the year we did a collaborative live project with Colour Hive, where work was exhibited and I was awarded a portfolio review with Ensall and Hall. It was really useful to get the opinion and feedback from someone with a global audience, as well as some helpful commercial insights, both of which really helped me to develop my Final Major Project.
One to watch
The highlight of my time on the Textile Design course was probably being selected to exhibit at New Designers. It’s a great opportunity to get insights and links into industry, and talk to people that you wouldn’t normally be in contact with. It really helps build your confidence with putting yourself out there and talking to people about your work, especially at a time where having that skill is key to your success.
I was chosen as the National Trust’s ‘One to Watch’ and I received a ‘loves Romo’ card from Romo Fabrics. It’s a great opportunity to speak to any industry specialist during the show, so having them visit me because they liked my work was really exciting.
My final project that I displayed at New Designers was based on the traces that people are leaving on the world right now, including climate change, pollution, oil spillage, etc. My aim is use design to get people contemplate their actions and the impact they are having on the world.
Looking ahead
Since finishing my course I have been on the two week internship with Amtico that I won at the Graduate Show, which has just been extended. It’s very exciting to be working in a design field straight after graduating, and I am very grateful for the support and connections BCU has given me to achieve this.
