Sports Therapy

Key Modules:

  •        Sport and Exercise Physiology and Nutrition

Interested in getting to know the science behind sports injuries and rehabilitation? Our innovative Sports Therapy course is practice based and covers the prevention, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and many other sports-based injuries. You’ll be undertaking practical assessments that mimic real life situations within our School of Health Sciences, which contains state-of-the-art sports therapy clinical rooms, laboratories, cutting-edge resources, and a designated sports area. 

The course is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists, which ensures that everything you learn on the course is aligned with industry professional industry standards. When on the course, you’ll be learning from some of the industry’s top professionals, including Peter Thain, who previously worked as Head of Medical Services at the Commonwealth Games.

Sport and Exercise Science

Key Modules:

  •        Sport and Exercise Psychology
  •        Strength and Conditioning

Our Sports and Exercise Science course considers aspects such as physiology, psychology and biomechanics and how they can be applied to physical activity and wellbeing. The course allows you to specialise in a discipline-specific area to enhance your employability and help you get the career you really want. You’ll also have the chance to earn further qualifications to help you with your employability on top of your degree, such as REPS fitness qualifications. A unique aspect of the course is its focus on the psychological factors of sport and exercise as well as the physical and biological aspects.

You’ll also get the chance to partake in a sandwich placement year. Past students have undertaken placements at places such as Birmingham City Football Club, Shrewsbury Town FC, Warwickshire County Cricket Club and more.

Sports Coaching and Physical Education

  •        High Performance Sports Coaching

Prefer the idea of teaching and coaching sport rather than being in the heart of the action? Sports Coaching and Physical Education allows you to study sports for education in our industry standard facilities and covers pedagogical practice across a range of ages and abilities, including both primary and secondary education. This course will set you up perfectly for studying a PGCE in Physical Education, if further study takes your fancy.

Everything you learn on the course will be up-to-date information following the government’s National Curriculum for Physical Education guidance. The course is hugely practice-based and will see you working face-to-face in a coaching or school environment.

Sports Coaching and Development FDSc*

Be one of the first students to join an exciting new course being developed in partnership with the Aston Villa Foundation. The Sports Coaching and Development FDSc course will give you the chance to work with the foundation to coach participants across a wide range of ages and abilities in both school and community settings. You’ll be studying at both Villa Park and our cutting-edge City South campus. Keep your eyes open for more developments and information on this course!

Secondary Physical Education with QTS

This course is delivered in our School of Education and Social Work and is ideal for those passionate about combining education and sport, and for those wanting to inspire young individuals throughout their secondary education. Whilst you’ll still be based at our newly extended City South campus with exceptional facilities, you’ll also be out gaining experience at a diverse range of secondary schools across Birmingham, where you’ll be teaching 11–16-year-olds.
