Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Maternity Support) Apprenticeship - CertHE

The course has been carefully designed in collaboration with local maternity providers, to provide you with the skills you require for you to become safe, competent Senior Healthcare Maternity Support Workers within the maternity workforce. The course aligns with the Health Education England Maternity Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework.

The course equips successful candidates for a range of roles within maternity settings. Expert teaching staff within our School of Nursing and Midwifery and School of Health Sciences provide the guidance needed to facilitate the development of the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours that will support and advance your career.

During your time on the course, you will receive integrated theory and practical content. This will allow you to engage in teaching and learning activities in both the academic and clinical practice setting. You will explore maternity focused modules that will enable you to undertake a more in-depth study relevant to your role within maternity services, practice, and service user groups.

You will be supported in developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to care for women, babies and their families in line with your scope of practice. You will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills relating to your role as well as exploring a range of essential transferable skills and knowledge such as delivering compassionate care, effective communication, responsibility and accountability within your role, infection prevention and confidentiality to name but a few. The course also offers an introduction to anatomy and physiology, and examines social, psychological, and cultural influences relevant to your area of work.  

Entry Requirements 

Please be aware this programme is an apprenticeship. In order to meet the apprenticeship requirements, you must be working within a suitable maternity environment, and have the support of your employer throughout the Cert HE Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Maternity Support) apprenticeship. You need this before you can apply. 

Applicants must have GCSE at Grade 4 (previously a Grade C) or above in English Language and Mathematics and be employed within a suitable maternity setting.
