Course aims

This course develops the key production skills required to create a range of compelling digital media content. You’ll work in industry-standard studios and collaborate with fellow students to bring your creative ideas to life, developing high-quality content from concept to completion.

The course covers key topics such as video editing, sound design, digital storytelling, and content distribution on social media platforms. Our team of industry-experienced tutors and technical staff will support you at every step, helping you refine your ideas and guiding you through the final stages of production. With a strong emphasis on professional, real-world practice, students will gain valuable skills in idea generation, commissioning, and pitching - essential for a successful career in digital media. By the end of the course, you will have produced a portfolio of media production work that showcases your skills and creativity.

What will you study?

The course helps students gain a better understanding of the key production techniques and editorial processes used in the digital media industry. Week one introduces the course and project management skills before focusing on sound design, podcasting and presenting. Students will explore sound recording, editing and mixing, and live radio studio operation. Week two includes video production skills such as camera operation and lighting setups, and video editing using industry-standard Adobe Premiere Pro software. The final week explores digital storytelling. This includes structuring narratives, crafting compelling content like short form video, and adapting stories for different platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, etc.
