Project title: Experimental Fashion
A major challenge in experimental fashion is to define innovation in the field. This challenge offers an opportunity for comparative analysis and triangulation. Pieces of experimental fashion may not have any resemblance either to fashionable clothes or the human body. Dramatic pieces of experimental fashion may be considered as situated at the boundary of fashion and fine arts. Cross referencing analysis of this complex field, applying experimental design practice, curatorial practice and corpus linguistic methodologies, brings together interpretations of innovation in experimental fashion and assists in finding ground for further theoretical inquiry.
How does the public perceive contemporary experimental fashion and what collective language does it use? These are just a few examples: “creativity for its own sake, a malicious activity of mentally ill designer or memes of fashion”. Could we possibly find a value in a public expression or is it an expected reaction on the carefully constructed carnival of bad taste?
