Kirsty Devaney

Composition Tutor and Young Composers' Project Leader

Kirsty Devaney is a British composer based in Birmingham where she completed her studies at Birmingham Conservatoire with Joe Cutler, Ed Bennett and Howard Skempton. Kirsty received the ‘Principal's Award’ and a Junior Fellowship from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2013. In 2011 Kirsty was shortlisted for a British Composer Award for her work for CoMA London. Premieres of her music include performances by Orchestra of the Swan, Orkest de Ereprijs, The Schubert Quartet, Noszferatu and BCMG, and she has had her music performed in venues and festivals such as York Festival of New Music, The Forge, Birmingham Town Hall, Stratford-Upon-Avon Music Festival and Warwick Arts Centre.

Kirsty has worked as a workshop leader and composer for organisations such as with THSH Birmingham, In Harmony, ISM, BCMG, CBSO, Sound and Music and Stratford Literary Festival. Kirsty set up and runs 'The Young Composers Project', an initiative at Birmingham Conservatoire to provide composing support for young musicians and composers.
