In REF 2021 we submitted to 14 Units of Assessment (UoAs) across the four main panels.

UOA 3: Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy
Health research sits in the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences (HELS). HELS comprises three Schools – Nursing and Midwifery, Health Sciences, and Education and Social Work.

UOA 4: Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience
Psychology research sits in the School of Social Sciences, within our Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

UOA 11: Computer Science and Informatics
The Computer Science and Informatics research cluster is a part of the School of Computing and Digital Technology, within our Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment.

Research in Engineering is supported within the School of Engineering and Built Environment, housed in our Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment.

Research in Business and Management Studies is hosted within our Birmingham City Business School, a part of our Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

Social Work and Social Policy research is hosted within the Department of Criminology and Sociology in the School of Social Sciences, located in our Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

Research in English Language and Literature is hosted by the School of English, situated in our Institute of Media and English within our Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.

UOA 32: Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory
Research in Art and Design is coordinated across the Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts, which is housed within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.

UOA 33: Music, Drama, Dance, Performing Arts, Film and Screen Studies
Research in Music and Drama takes place within Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, a vibrant and wide-ranging centre for education and research in Music and Performing Arts.

UOA 34: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management
Research in communication, cultural and media studies takes place within the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research (BCMCR), which is part of our Birmingham Institute of Media and English and located in our Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.

Units of Assessment
For REF 2021 there were 34 units of assessment covering all academic disciplines. The REF 2021 UoAs differ from those of REF 2014 and the previous RAEs, making direct comparisons across exercises difficult in some disciplines.
