Lead by Imran Mogra, the aim of this research project is to gain enhanced knowledge and understanding of the environment, ethos, curriculum and pedagogies employed in a sample of SEND madrasah settings so that the extent to which the Islamic philosophy of education is enacted in relation to these children is understood.
This research will document their historical development, the motivations for their establishment and how they strive to provide a religious, spiritual and moral education (RSME) to children who have otherwise been unable to fully access mainstream madrasah education.
This ground-breaking research investigates the curriculum, pedagogies, experiences and ethos of madrasahs for SEND children. It will contribute to a better in understanding their philosophies, experiences and practices in supporting these children to learn Islam. It will help to promote and model more inclusive settings. It will create better awareness of the needs of pupils with SEND and improve provision in mainstream classrooms.
The project has been generously funded by the Society of Educational Studies.
