Facilities for Health, Education and Life Sciences

City South Campus in Edgbaston, to the south of the City Centre, is home to our Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences. Our £41 million building is the home of our innovative simulation spaces for healthcare students, life sciences labs and subject specific spaces for teaching. Our students learn in the most realistic settings – from a mock operating theatre and hospital wards to a fully equipped birthing room and virtual radiotherapy suite.

Biomedical Sciences Labs

Our Biomedical laboratories and equipment will give you a leading edge when seeking employment.

SPACE

Skills Practice and Care Enhancement – SPACE – is a room resourced with equipment and a technician, and is dedicated to you practising your clinical skills in a supportive environment.

Teacher-training spaces

Our specialist spaces for teacher training allow you to explore all of the National Curriculum subjects. These include Art, Music, PE, Drama, Science and Design and Technology, plus our Primary Innovation Lab.

Operating Department

Our operating department suite covers the perioperative journey from anaesthetics, through surgery and into post-anaesthetic care, which gives you the opportunity to practise a range of practical skills.

Telehealth Suite

Our telehealth suite reflects changes in the sector to provide more flexible access to healthcare and helps you to prepare for a future in the increasingly digital healthcare sector.

Anatomage

Our Anatomage tables feature real life MRI scan data to allow you to investigate anatomy digitally.

Microbiology Laboratory

We have a range of specialist equipment for biomedical engineering students including a 3D printer and thermos dynamic equipment.

library facilities

Our Mary Seacole library has an extensive of range of information and reference materials set out in a relaxing environment for study.

Home Environment Room

In addition to being used as a home birthing room, our Home Environment room can play host a range of scenarios and equipment for Learning Disability and Mental Health Nursing students.

Mock Wards

You could be forgiven for thinking you’re in a real hospital in our mock wards! They’ll enable you to get a feel of what a ward is really like before you head out for your first placement.

Birthing room

Our birthing room is kitted out in the same way as a real maternity ward. There’s a bed and all of the essential equipment needed to ensure safe pre-natal and post-natal care.

Alexander stadium

The Commonwealth Games lit up Birmingham in the summer of 2022, with the eyes of the world on the West Midlands during a spectacular festival of sport and culture. And now, one of the most iconic venues from the Games will become out latest specialist space - as our Sports and Exercise Sciences courses move into the world-class Alexander Stadium.

Social Kitchen

When you need a break from lectures and studying, Social Kitchen offers hot food, coffee and drinks to wind down with friends.

Students' Union

BCUSU is behind some of the biggest events at the University, such as the Big Welcome and Graduation Ball. It also offers over 100 sports teams, societies and media groups for you to get involved in. Whatever your interests, they’ve got you covered!  

Costa and Starbucks

Our City South campus offers two coffee shops to grab a latte or some lunch and get on with your work.
