Music
Birmingham provides for all music tastes and you’ll discover some great live destinations across the city – from small pubs and jazz bars, through to the famous O2 Academy and Jools Holland's Jam House. Major rock bands and artists play regularly at the Barclaycard Arena in the city centre, and at the Genting Arena about 10 miles outside of Birmingham.
Our own Conservatoire
Student and professional orchestras regularly perform here. Birmingham is the home of the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, one of Europe's leading ensembles, which operates composition workshops and masterclasses at the Conservatoire.
For smaller gigs
There’s Wulfrun Hall in nearby Wolverhampton, while you can also enjoy classical music performances at Symphony Hall, home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Our students also contribute to Electric Banana, a music news and entertainment guide, which offers talented individuals a chance to contribute album reviews and preview gigs in and around the city.
Nightlife
From the busy bustle of Broad Street through to the relaxed bars in student-friendly Selly Oak and Moseley, there’s a wide selection of nightlife across Birmingham.
A short walk from the city centre, Digbeth’s The Rainbow, Spotlight and The Custard Factory have some fantastic club nights.
Try the iconic club nights at The Institute or The Rainbow – frequently listed in the top 100 clubs in the world and top 10 in the UK.
Plenty of bars draw more mature crowds, from big chains like All Bar One and the sophisticated Laurent Perrier Champagne Bar at The Cube.
If a good meal is your preference the city has everything from Mexican to Mongolian cuisine.

You can't come to Birmingham without trying the Birmingham Balti Mile, where you can find an authentic choice of Balti experiences at one of 50 restaurants.
Birmingham's Chinatown hot pot buffet specials are another firm favourite and there are plenty of familiar names such as Wagamama, Pizza Express, Shimla Pinks, Café Rouge and TGI Fridays.
