Built environment news and events

We normally only make offers on Built Environment courses to applicants who have attended an Applicant Taster Day. If, based on your application, we want to make an offer, we will invite you to attend a Taster Day. In order to have your offer confirmed for all of our Built Environment undergraduate courses you must attend one of our Taster Days OR have a short informal phone discussion. You can book an Applicant Taster Day or phone discussion by following the link to the Applicant Portal on the Overview tab.

Choosing a university course is a big decision and we want you to be sure you are making the best and best-informed choice for you.

Your visit will start with an overview of how your course fits within the professions and the school, and what to expect when studying at BCU. You will then have and a detailed small-group discussion and taster class activity with course staff and current students.

Group taster activities

We encourage you get fully involved in the activities you’ll participate in, to get a real sense of what studying with us will be like. We also encourage you to ask lots of questions; choosing a university course is a big decision and we want you to be sure you are making the best choice for you.

We will provide you with feedback and normally confirm offers within 2-3 days of your attendance at a Taster Day.

To help you get the most out of the course discussion and activities we suggest that you:

  • Read through your UCAS personal statement
  • Think over what you've studied so far and what has interested you in particular
  • Think about how you would explain why you are so passionate about the course that you want to study and why you have applied to study with us.
  • Think about some questions you might like to ask us, these can be either course specific or more general questions about student life.

Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Meet key teaching staff and current students to learn about life as part of our academic community.
  • Visit our labs and classrooms and discover the spaces you'll be learning in. This environment offers you an individual/group environment to work on all aspects of design, programming and measurement, using the latest professional software.
  • See the newly-opened Curzon Building constructed by our partner, Wilmott Dixon, and discuss how your intended profession might contribute to designing, costing, constructing and maintaining this and other development projects.
  • View or discuss examples of the coursework projects you will undertake and technologies you will use during your course. Your Applicant Taster Day is a chance to understand the huge range of ways you’ll study and be assessed.
