Individual professional development

Individual professional development

EDS work with, and support, academic staff at all levels from across the University by providing access to a range of development opportunities to help staff improve skills in curriculum design and learning and teaching practice.

We can help via the following:

The PGCert (online) This is a year-long course designed for staff at all BCU partner institutions in the UK and abroad to explore a range of theories, concepts, issues and practices in relation to the design and delivery of inclusive and engaging learning experiences for their students.
SEDA courses These are short courses for inexperienced staff new to learning and teaching in HE and for experienced staff wishing to develop specific aspects of their practice. Following each course there is the opportunity to submit an assignment to receive an accredited qualification.
Other EDS workshops and short courses These are non-accredited sessions run by EDS to help you improve on specific aspects of your teaching practice.

Other available support from EDS

EDS can also help you develop in many other ways. The Academic Professional Apprenticeship is available to most academic staff, and through our BCU Fellowship Scheme, we can help you gain HEA Fellowship.

Alternatively, you could see how our consultancy services in Academic Programme Support and CAS for Staff can help you develop your courses, or explore how you could use learning technologies with TELT.

Additionally, the EDS Library may have some documentation available to act as guidance.
