Working with schools and colleges

Working with Schools and Colleges The Education Liaison team is part of the Marketing and Communications Department at the University, working with schools and colleges to promote the University to prospective students.

A large part of what we do focuses on ensuring that the right students are recruited onto the right courses. We attend Higher Education fairs, host school visits and offer information and guidance, as well as participating in many other activities. Our aim is to raise educational standards and aspirations and help to remove any barriers that still surround entry to HE.

The main focus of the Education Liaison service is to encourage informed decisions – whether that is for parents, teachers, local partners or most importantly, the students themselves.

Finally, through our work with the local community, we try to identify any gaps in information and develop new ways to meet those needs.

What do we do?

We offer a range of services to schools and colleges, from group bookings for open days, to workshops and training.

Whether you want us to come to you or you want to see the University’s facilities for yourself, our Education Liaison department exists to provide a comprehensive range of information about entering Higher Education. We can even tailor the information to your requirements.

So how do we do that?

You can also access many of our services through the Course Enquiries Team, our dedicated advice team, who help those interested in studying at Birmingham City University.

Our credentials

All members of the Education Liaison team belong to HELOA (Higher Education Liaison Officers' Association), and as such are bound together in their common roles – providing guidance and support to prospective students, their parents and guardians and advisers and recruiting students to universities and HE colleges.

The association has strong principles on the provision of impartial guidance and supporting applicants to make informed choices. The Association's ‘code of practice’ also informs schools, colleges and event organisers of the level of professionalism and quality they can expect if a member of the Association is invited to their premises or event.
