Birmingham City University extends a warm welcome to students from Hong Kong. We have established relationships with partners in Hong Kong including the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE), Continuous Professional Education Centre Limited (CPE) and Kaplan Hong Kong.
We have much to enjoy in terms of culture and entertainment in our city of Birmingham, including an annual Dragonboat Festival and the celebrations of Chinese New Year – celebrations take place for thousands of visitors including lion dancing and fireworks.
On campus, you’ll find many places to socialise, from our own Students’ Union traditional pub – The Eagle & Ball – through to specialist societies including Anime & Manga, BCU DJ Society, Online Gaming, Rock Society, the Harry Potter Society, and even Yoga. We also have 30 sports teams you can get involved in from basketball to cheer-leading, rock climbing to swimming, and volleyball to tennis.
Andy shares his experience studying User Experience Design at Birmingham City University and tells us how this has helped him develop his own business in the UK and the experience he gained working on projects with multinational companies like Hugo Boss, Siemens, Lufthansa and Decathlon. Undergraduate
We are happy to consider holders of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) - three core subjects of 4443 or 553 for courses which require 112 points. For Mathematics, students must complete the extension mathematics to be counted as one core subject.
Postgraduate
We are happy to consider a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2:2 classification. Some postgraduate courses require a subject-specific undergraduate degree to qualify for entry, for example, Law, Computing, Social Sciences, Engineering, etc. Please check the relevant course page for this information.
Special requirements
Art and Design
All undergraduate Art and Design courses require a good portfolio of artwork. Some postgraduate courses also require a portfolio, while others require a proposal of studies (some other courses require both a portfolio and a proposal of studies are required). Please check the faculty website for specific requirements.
Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE)
All undergraduate courses in the CEBE faculty require Mathematics at O Level. However, Mathematics is required at AS Level minimum Grade C or the equivalent for the Engineering suite and BEng Telecommunication and Networks.
Business School
All Business School undergraduate Year 1 courses require a minimum mathematics grade of C at O Level or the equivalent.

I did a lot of work with the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, working on musicals and performing in productions, which helped me gain valuable acting and performing experience.
