Placement FAQs

Will I be expected to attend placement at weekends?

For some placement areas yes, the Nursing and Midwifery Council requires that students experience care 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

You should therefore be prepared to attend a range of different shift patterns.

How far will I be expected to travel to attend placement?

This will depend on where you choose to live. You will be asked to attend a placement anywhere within Birmingham and Solihull. However we do aim to place you close to where you live wherever possible.

How will I be assessed during placement?

There is a process of continuous assessment in placement which will be undertaken by a qualified assessor with clearly set out assessment criteria.

Will I be able to keep my part time employment whilst on placement?

We would not recommend this however we recognise it may be a necessity due to personal circumstances. It needs to be undertaken with careful negotiation with your employer and by being open and honest with placement areas and university staff. The safety of you and the children and families being cared for is really important.
