We are one of the leading research centres and have a proven track record in producing internationally excellent research in a number of diverse areas of radio studies, including studies of radio audiences online, the operations of radio companies in the digital age, and the affordances of new technologies in the radio industry. You would be supervised by academics who combine research, teaching and work in the field of radio.
Prof Tim Wall is a leading international expert in these area of radio studies and popular music culture. His work on new forms of music and radio media and the distinctive forms of music radio in different countries are informed by his historical studies of radio technologies and culture.
Professor of Music Industries Innovation, Andrew Dubber, author of 'Radio in the Digital Age' (Polity), has built on his background in the radio industry of New Zealand to become world-wide authority on digital music technologies, whilst Dr Nick Gebhardt's background in community radio has informed his work on the entertainment industry of the United States.
Dr Simon Barber, who completed his doctoral thesis on the role of the music industries in all aspects of jazz production, is currently developing new research around the role of music workers and has developed his SodaJerker podcast into a world-renowned resource for fans and scholars of the songwriting process.
