Beethoven Piano Sonata No.30
Beethoven Piano Sonata No.31

This solo recital features three works that explore the evolution of piano music, from Debussy's exploration of colour and sound to Beethoven's deep expression of structure and counterpoint.

Debussy uses flowing harmonies and intricate textures to evoke shifting soundscapes, while Beethoven’s Op.109 and Op.110 integrate lyricism with complex forms and counterpoint.

Together, these pieces offer a journey through contrasting approaches to the piano, showcasing the instrument's diverse expressive potential.

Jianing Zhao was born in 1995 in Xi'an, China, he began piano studies at age four and completed his middle school education at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music Middle School under Prof. Wang Jinzhe.

In 2015, Zhao moved to Germany to pursue his Bachelor’s degree. He began his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under the renowned pianist Prof. Susanne Grützmann in 2016. From his fourth semester, Zhao was mentored by the head of the Piano Department, Prof. Birgitta Wollenweber, until he graduated in 2020.

In 2021, Zhao began his Master’s degree studies at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar under Prof. Grigory Gruzman. Later, at the invitation of the renowned pianist Prof. Evgeni Bozhanov, Zhao transferred to the Folkwang Universität der Künste Essen to study under Bozhanov until he graduated in 2023.

In 2024, Zhao started his Advanced Postgraduate Diploma at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, studying under Alasdair Beatson and Pascal Nemirovski.
