A one-woman solo show written by a Birmingham School of Acting graduate receives its first full run at Camden People’s Theatre next week, telling the story of a young female held in a flat for days by notorious gangsters, the Kray twins.

24-year-old Camilla Whitehill graduated in 2012 from Birmingham School of Acting, part of Birmingham City University, spending the last 18 months writing Where Do Little Birds Go?, a tale of crime, kidnap and lost innocence in the heart of the 1960s East End.

Camilla, originally from Hastings and now living in London, said: “I’ve always been interested in the reality of crime, particularly in people that become famous for their crimes.

“The Kray twins are interesting because they had a genuine celebrity mystique, despite the fact that they were just two violent criminals from Whitechapel. But beyond that, Where Do Little Birds Go? is the story of a woman who desperately wanted to be someone, encountering something horrific on the way.

“The story of Lisa Prescott, who goes by the name of Lucy Fuller in the play, is barely mentioned in incident accounts and that’s what ultimately inspired the play. The interesting thing to look out for is the amount of characters in the show, despite there only being one actor.”
